Secretary Pompeo delivers the virtual keynote address at the Florida Family Policy Council’s Annual Policy Awards Dinner on October 3, as the representative of a country that respects every single life.
Pompeo has talked about two key things: the right to life and religious freedom.
The Declaration of Independence tells us that “all men are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among them are the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”
Pompe said that his State Department is exceptional because they use their foreign policy power to honor that dignity, and America is truly a light to the world.
Pompeo said President Trump’s leadership has made clear: “There is no international right to abortion.” “America is special because we respect life.”
Pompeo said, “we need you to tell the world the truth: Abortion is not a human right…it takes a human life.”
We all know human rights violation is an extremely serious problem in China under the Communist Party dictatorship.
According to China’s official statistics, in 2008, there were an estimated 13 million abortions performed.
The Chinese Communist Party never respects human life. In fact, medical abortions were legalized in China in 1988.
The importance of abortions as a family planning tool is evident through the extensive implementation of medical abortions in China, and it is highly promoted by Chinese doctors.
Then there is the second area: defending religious freedom.
Pompe said, “Religious freedom is our first freedom. When we, each of us, can worship freely and openly discuss the eternal questions of the soul, we can understand how we ought to live our lives – both individually and as a society.”
Just earlier week in Rome when meeting with senior Vatican officials, Pompeo urged the Church to be a bold moral witness in defense of religious freedom, especially regarding China and the Chinese Communist Party’s staggering abuses.
Pompeo said in his latest speech, “One million or more Uyghurs and other Muslims are held in internment camps that rival the worst abuses that happened a century ago in Europe.”
“Even as you sit in this beautiful place tonight with this great group people, Christians in China are being ordered to replace pictures of Jesus with pictures of Chairman Mao,” he added.
The Trump administration have spoken up about these abuses and have taken action against those responsible. And now the United States has rallied its friends and allies around the world to do the same.
“Being America’s Secretary of State has reinforced how much the world watches America, watches America to see if we’re leading, ” Pompeo remarked. “We must go where others fear to tread; We must speak up when others choose to stay silent; We must let our light shine when others keep it under a bushel.”
Pompeo told that every morning when he arrives at the State Department, he gets out of his vehicle, takes about a 20-second ride up the elevator to his office, and he uses that time each day to ask the Lord’s help for the day.
My honor and thanksgiving to the Secretary of State Pompeo who has been fighting for the human dignity of the world, especially of the Chinese people.
