This is the first time Donald Trump has suffered a major setback in his diplomatic affairs. It is a total disgrace for the United States to be fooled around by Kim Jong-Un as such.
Still Trump acted as a gentleman at the press conference when he started his remarks by telling the “attractive news from Pakistan and India” and developments in Venezuela, after thanking Vietnam for hosting the event.
“On North Korea, we just left Chairman Kim. We had a really, I think, a very productive time. We thought, and I thought, and Secretary Pompeo felt that it wasn’t a good thing to be signing anything.” Trump has tried to control his fury when he said these words, “sometimes you have to walk, and this was just one of those times”.
Secretary Pompeo felt first that the United States has been cheated. He remarked, “Unfortunely, we didn’t get all the way. We didn’t get to something that ultimately made some sense for the United States of America.” Pompeo was the same uneasy as Trump although he said “a big step along the way towards what the two leaders had agreed to back to Singapore, in June of last year”.
Trump’s administration had thought that Kim Jong-Un would keep his promise made 9 months ago in Singapore and thus had been full of expectations to make a deal yesterday. If we count the first summit in Singapore, this could be the second major setback in Trump’s foreign relations. It is a shame that the United States has wasted nearly a year on empty talks.
What Trump wants is complete denuclearization; but Kim thinks the other way, lifting the sanctions first. “There is a gap”, Trump said, “he wants to just do areas that are less important than the areas that we want.”
The US knows every tiny detail of North Korea’s nuclear capabilities and where Kim’s arsenals are in the mountains. Hard to cover his disappointment, Trump seems to give out a warning by adding “We know every inch of that country”.
Trump was furious that all his administration has been dragged to Vietnam for a deal while a drama against him was going on back in Washington with his former lawyer Michael Cohen called him “a liar, a conman, a racist” at the hearing. He was furious about the back hands holding knives against him.
Trump has finally come to sense that China is the biggest black hand behind his disgrace.
“Speaking of China, we’re very well on our way to doing something special, but we’ll see. I mean, I am always prepared to walk. I’m never afraid to walk from a deal. And I would do that with China, too, if it didn’t work out”.
China and the US already had eight rounds of trade talks in the past year or so; vice premier Liu He just wanted to fool the US around with his “purchase of 5 million tons of soybean” daily or one time only. Trump said he was prepared to meet President Xi again at his Mar-a-Lago resort sometime in March. But now, as Trump has come to his sense, he is prepared to do the same with China too – walk away from a deal.
Trump said repeatedly, “China is helping” and “President Xi is a good friend of mine”. When we want to understand Trump’s tone, we have to hear it in a negative way, “China isn’t helping”, and “President Xi …”
Trump was angry at the press conference when he answered the question from China’s state media CGTN, “I think China has been a big help. Bigger than most people know. On the border, as you know, 93 percent of the goods coming into North Korea come through China. So there’s a great power here. At the same time, I believe – I happen to believe that North Korea is calling its own shots. They’re not taking orders from anybody. He’s a very strong guy. And they’re able to do things that are pretty amazing. But 93 percent still come in from China. China has an influence, and China has been a big help.”
If it had not been the big brother China, Kim might have been submissive, although “he’s a very strong guy.” Trump’s intelligence did not have a clear idea why Kim took a train for thousands of miles all through the heartland of China into Vietnam. President Xi and Kim “are able to do things that are pretty amazing”, Trump thought. 93%! So accurate! To be exact and specific…That was truly a “big help”!
For decades, communist China has cheated the west and the United States for their own selfish interests. Donald Trump has learned about their tricks before he was elected into the White House. Still he was fooled around by the CCP in so many rounds of talks, although China has been severely hit by his tariffs.
“So we’ll see what happens with China. I think we have a very good chance. Their numbers are down. But I don’t want that. I want their numbers – I want them to do great. But we’ve been losing anywhere from $300 – $500 billion a year with China for many, many years,” Trump said.
Trump has been too-gentleman like when it comes to dealing with China. He truly wants the Chinese people to have freedom, democracy and prosperity. He wants to do good to the Chinese, helping them take down the notorious Great Firewall and punishing those human rights violators. But he has somewhat underestimated the brutality and cruelty of the Communist regime, although he expressed firmly at the UN General Assembly his stance against communism and socialism.
This is a difficult world, not because of the existence of communism and socialism, but they truly makes it more difficult. Trump has wasted 9 months for a peace deal in the Korean Peninsula; he has wasted more time for meaningless talks with communist China. Trump has been kind and smart enough to avoid a war or even threats by military exercises as he said, “Well, you know, the military exercises, I gave that up quite a while ago because it costs us $100 million every time we do it…I mean, we spent hundreds of millions of dollars on those exercises, and I hated to see it. I thought It was unfair”.
Trump wants a fair deal, but the difficult world never gives him a fair deal, even people within the democrats. Still, Trump has confidence with Kim, with North Korea, and surely with the world.
This is a difficult world even for a fighter as Trump. If Trump was impeached and stepped down, he might end up in prison. That’s why he has to work hard, to be firm, and to be optimistic.
“My whole attitude changed a lot because I got to know, as you know, Chairman Kim very well. And they have a point of view also, “ said Trump, not wanting to put pressure on North Korea to move forward, “So I don’t really want to talk about that. I just think that, hopefully, for the sake of South Korea, for the sake of Japan, and frankly, for the sake of China – I was talking to President Xi, who really is a man that gets the respect of a lot of people”.
Trump is finally sure that such dictators as President Xi and Chairman Kim have a totally different mindset than his. He just doesn’t want to talk about it.
Trump calls the day off by saying, “Well, ladies and gentlemen, I’m about to get on a plane and fly back to a wonderful place called Washington, D.C.”
The president is really tired. He dearly needs a good sleep in the air.
